Forwarding Fees
Forwarding fees in Canadian lawyer referral services are subject to law society rules on permissible fee amounts and disclosure obligations. Qase manages the ledger — calculation, invoicing, and reconciliation — so your service can demonstrate compliance at any point without reconstructing records from email.
The fee follows the referral. Every time. Without a separate spreadsheet.
Forwarding fees need to be calculated to the correct tariff, invoiced to the attorney promptly, collected, and reported to the law society accurately. Each of those steps is currently a manual task that lives outside the referral record. Qase links all four stages to the referral itself.
Tariff-based fee calculation
Your service's forwarding fee tariff is configured in Qase. When a matter closes, Qase calculates the fee due against that tariff automatically — standard rate, matter-type variation, or any other schedule structure your service uses. When the applicable law society rules change, you update the tariff in Qase; no code changes are required.
Digital invoicing
Qase generates a digital invoice to the attorney when the matter closes and the fee becomes due. Payment confirmation is logged against the referral record — no paper invoice trail.
Reconciliation reports — any time, not just at month end
Monthly and quarterly reconciliation reports show fees invoiced, fees paid, and outstanding balances by attorney and by period. Run the report in the middle of the month if a panel attorney questions their balance. The data is always current — you are not waiting for the monthly reconciliation cycle.
Full fee audit trail
Every fee event is recorded: calculation timestamp and tariff version applied, invoice sent date, payment amount and date, and the matter reference it relates to. If a law society oversight inquiry questions your fee practices for a given period, the complete record is a single export — not a multi-week reconstruction from email threads.

Forwarding fees in Canadian legal referral services are subject to applicable law society rules governing permissible fee amounts, disclosure obligations, and record-keeping requirements. Qase is designed to support compliance with those rules — but it does not interpret them on your behalf. Your service is responsible for ensuring your configured tariff schedules reflect current applicable law society rules in your jurisdiction. Qase is not a law society-approved system and does not substitute for legal advice on your service's fee obligations.
